Forint is a contemporary serif type family developed from a limited and imperfect source. The design process began with the irregular, unevenly engraved F O R I N T letterforms found on the 1947 Hungarian Forint coin — marks shaped by pressure, urgency, and technical constraint rather than refinement.
From these few flawed characters, Forint expands into a full Antiqua family with seven weights and matching Roman and Italic styles. Subtle Renaissance proportions provide structure, while preserved irregularities — the so-called freak details — introduce character and tension into the system.
Rather than reviving or reconstructing historical type, Forint transforms accidental forms into a coherent, modern typeface designed for editorial, branding, and cultural use. Released in 2026, it balances usability and expression, allowing imperfection to function as a deliberate design tool.
